We know that the gluten-free lifestyle can add stress to social events. Navigating gatherings and dinner parties away from your own kitchen can be daunting, we’re here to help!
Here are our tips for surviving dinner parties or gatherings while gluten-free!
How to Survive Dinner Parties While Gluten-Free
Bring It Up
Have a conversation with the host beforehand so you can fill them in on what you can and can’t have.
Separate Cookware
Ask for gluten-free dishes to be prepared and cooked in separate cookware, and with separate cooking utensils.
Keep Foods Separated
Ask that foods that are gluten-free and foods that are not are plated separately.
Ask to See Labels
Don’t hesitate to ask to see labels or have them sent to you beforehand if the host is unsure about hidden ingredients.
Bring Something
Offer to bring your own dish so that you have an option you know is safe!
Celiac Disease
If you are very sensitive or have celiac disease, consider requesting that anything containing gluten be left out of the meal entirely. There is always a risk of cross-contamination, and that risk increases with every extra set of hands involved! You may also consider hosting a meal yourself (be sure to recruit lots of help!) to ensure everything is made fully gluten-free!
In Summary
There is no perfect way to eliminate all risk when it comes to dinner parties and eating at someone else's home, but with enough open communication and community support, our hope for you is that you can relax and focus on enjoying the moments that truly matter.
